Description

Prismatech BPTR100 Laboratory Refractometer (BenchTop Refractometer), marketed under the brand name Prismatech, is an Iranian-made device designed with modern technology and high-quality components to measure and display the concentration of transparent and non-transparent solutions.

This product is used in research laboratories and quality control departments of industrial factories.

Its ease of use, high accuracy, and reliability make it an ideal choice for manufacturing plants and research centers.

The laboratory refractometer measures the refractive index of light and, through complex calculations and multi-step calibration, determines the concentration of the sample in Brix (°Bx) and refractive index (nD) units.

Applications of BPTR100 Laboratory Refractometer

All models are suitable for a wide range of applications, including the food industry, pharmaceutical industry, chemical and petrochemical industries, beverage production, and sanitary product manufacturing.

The BPTR100 laboratory refractometer is an excellent choice for measuring Brix and refractive index of liquids within a temperature range of 5 to 40°C with high precision.

This device is equipped with an automatic temperature control system using a Peltier element, which can quickly bring the sample to the standard temperature and perform the measurement at that level.

For liquids with higher temperatures, the BPTR100-HT refractometer is recommended.

A refractometer, or Brix meter, operates using a high-refractive-index prism and an LED light source positioned to illuminate the sample above the prism. The refracted light is then measured by a sensor, and the device determines the angle of refraction. Because the measurement depends on temperature, the device applies temperature compensation through specific algorithms and converts the data into refractive index or other related parameters.

Compared with optical or analog types, digital refractometers offer advantages such as ease of use, automatic temperature correction, and adjustable measurement ranges.

Usage as Urine Refractometer

A urine refractometer is a scientific instrument used to measure the concentration of dissolved substances in urine. It operates based on the principle of light refraction and allows the determination of the urine’s specific gravity.

These measurements provide important information about hydration status and kidney function.

To use a urine refractometer, the following steps are typically followed:

  1. Calibration: Calibrate the device with distilled water or special calibration solutions to ensure accurate results.

  2. Sampling: Place a small amount of urine sample on the refractometer prism.

  3. Measurement: Close the cover and look through the eyepiece to observe the light refraction line and read the specific gravity or relative density.

Advantages of using a urine refractometer include:

  • High accuracy: These instruments typically provide precise measurements of dissolved substance concentration.
  • Speed: Measurements are performed quickly, and results are obtained immediately.
  • Simplicity: Refractometers are easy to use and do not require complex equipment.

Measuring the specific gravity of urine can help diagnose and monitor certain diseases and medical conditions such as diabetes, kidney disorders, and electrolyte imbalances.

For example, a high specific gravity may indicate a high concentration of dissolved substances due to dehydration or kidney disease, while a low specific gravity may suggest excessive fluid intake or impaired kidney function.
