The PTCond-µ Low-Range Inline Conductivity Meter by PrismaTech is an Iranian-made device designed to measure the electrical conductivity of liquids in order to determine the concentration of electrolyte solutions.
The PrismaTech online conductivity meter, also known as the inline conductivity meter or EC meter, is used across various industries. The conductivity of a liquid depends on four key factors: ion concentration, ion mobility within the liquid, interaction between ions, and the temperature of the liquid.
A notable feature of the inline conductivity meter is its ability to measure the electrical conductivity of solutions in real time (during the process) and its capability to be installed directly on pipelines (in-line).
By mounting the device directly on pipelines or tanks, it can measure the conductivity of the flowing fluid in real time.
This model of the inline conductivity meter is suitable for applications such as measuring and controlling the conductivity and hardness of water in cooling systems, boilers, and power plants.
It is also used to measure conductivity in the production of various industrial and edible salts. The Prizmatik inline conductivity meter model PTCond-T can be installed on pipes and tanks with diameters greater than 10 centimeters.
The online or inline electrical conductivity meter (EC meter) measures conductivity using a probe that applies an alternating electrical current to two or four electrodes. This process allows the device to measure the electrical resistance of the solution.
After immersing the electrodes in the liquid, the instrument applies a voltage between them. The electrical resistance of the solution causes a voltage drop, which the device measures. When current passes through the solution, positively charged ions (cations) move toward the negative electrode, while negatively charged ions (anions) move toward the positive electrode. This movement of ions creates the solution’s electrical conductivity.
Measuring the conductivity of a solution provides valuable insights into the nature of the solution and the particles it contains. Conductivity and pH are two essential parameters for determining the acidity or alkalinity of solutions. Measuring conductivity is also an important analytical process in many industrial operations.
This measurement is considered one of the least specific analytical techniques because it does not distinguish between different conductive substances dissolved in the solution. Therefore, conductivity measurement is used in processes where identifying the specific conductive material is unnecessary.
For example, in the production of ultrapure water used in semiconductor chip manufacturing, this method is used since any dissolved conductive substance is undesirable. Another example is in saline (saltwater) solutions, where large amounts of salt are dissolved in water, and conductivity measurement helps determine the concentration of the solution.
